Today, Cleveland Clinic London Hospital celebrates its first year treating a wide range of complex conditions, with afocus on heart and vascular, digestive disease, neurosciences and orthopedics.

Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre was the first Cleveland Clinic location in London to see patients on September 14, 2021.

Across both locations in London, there have been approximately 75,000 patient visits with 28,815 unique patient appointments as of March 28, 2023. Around 2,000 patients traveled abroad to Cleveland Clinic London for care from 114 countries.

Cleveland Clinic London offers leading specialists and advanced technology to deliver the highest quality of care to patients with the most complex conditions. The hospital is supported by an acute admissions unit (AAU) and 24/7 intensive care specialists in the ICU, a model that has enhanced patient safety and experience.

From March 29, 2022, through March 28, 2023, we have seen 2,942 hospital admissions, approximately 14% of those admissions have come through the AAU. Within the first three months of the hospital’s opening, a multidisciplinary team of caregivers began performing open heart surgery and awake craniotomies. To date, the team has performed over 100 complex heart and neuro surgeries.

Cleveland Clinic London supports the NHS with its wait lists for complex surgeries for spine, brain and digestive disease.

Cleveland Clinic London has been effectively using a leading-edge pharmacy robot to enhance the safe administration of medications to patients. A first for the UK, this advanced technology prepares and tracks drugs by bar code to the patient’s bedside, offering an additional level of safety in the delivery of medicine.

Education is integral to Cleveland Clinic’s vision, the hospital in London is partnering with the healthcare community in London to train the next generation of doctors and nurses. In October of 2022, Cleveland Clinic London began welcoming final year medical students from Queen Mary University of London’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The medical students are receiving a curriculum of training from Cleveland Clinic London medical staff across multiple service lines – neuroscience, perioperative medicine and ITU, orthopedics and musculoskeletal, acute medicine and medical subspecialties, heart and vascular, and digestive diseases.

A neurologist and neurosurgeon programme with University College London Queen Square Institute of Neurology (IoN) began. This unique programme has clinical and research components to teach and train medical students and postgraduate fellows.

The first cohort of nursing students from London Southbank University began in early November of 2022. The nursing students will spend two years training at Cleveland Clinic London locations and working with a multidisciplinary team for a full clinical experience.

The hospital has been approved by the Health Research Authority to have a research repository, becoming among the first for private healthcare in the UK. Cleveland Clinic London BioResource repository has begun enrolling patients. This data repository will collect, store and publish consented patient data that will help improve patient outcomes. A team of cardiologists has recently been approved for a trial that focuses on the keyhole implantation of heart valve prosthesis into the tricuspid valve.

Cleveland Clinic London will open a new medical outpatient building at 55 Moorgate Street in the city of London, Cleveland Clinic Moorgate Outpatient Centre, which will welcome patients in later 2023 for outpatient appointments, diagnostics (including MRI), and general practice appointments.
